INTELLIGENT CONTROL & SOFTWARE
Controls, Connectivity and Software for Modern Manufacturing
Cosen bandsaws can be configured to operate as part of a larger manufacturing system, not just as standalone machines. Our engineering team works with customer controls, automation, and manufacturing engineering teams to define the communication, I/O, data, and control requirements needed for each application.
Depending on the project, Cosen can support integration with plant data collection systems, robotic cells, upstream and downstream processes, and customer-specific control architectures.
Controls & System Intergration
Cosen’s standard control platform uses Mitsubishi PLC hardware, while custom control packages can be developed around customer-specific requirements. Cosen also has experience integrating Allen-Bradley and other control systems when required by the application.
-
Depending on the project, control modifications may include:
-
Customer-specified PLC and HMI platforms
-
Custom digital and analog I/O
-
Machine-ready, cycle-start, cycle-complete, and fault signals
-
External equipment interlocks
-
Safety PLC and safety device integration
-
Operator interface modifications
-
Communication with upstream and downstream equipment
Our engineering team works with customer requirements to define the appropriate control architecture and
determine how the saw should interface with the rest of the production process.
Industrial Data Connectivity
For customers requiring machine-level production data or communication with other equipment, Cosen can support connectivity between the bandsaw and plant systems.
Depending on the machine, control package, and project requirements, communication can be configured using industrial protocols such as:
-
EtherNet/IP
-
Modbus
-
OPC UA through a communication gateway
-
Other application-specific interfaces
Cosen can also provide PLC inputs and outputs that allow external equipment and automation systems to coordinate directly with the saw. For example, an external system can signal the saw to start or pause a cycle while material is handled, then signal the saw to resume operation.
Available machine data may include:
-
Machine operating status
-
Run, idle, and alarm conditions
-
Cycle status
-
Part and cut counts
-
Blade speed
-
Feed rate
-
Cutting parameters
-
Alarm and fault information
-
Other application-specific machine data

This information can be made available to customer systems such as:
-
SCADA platforms
-
MES systems
-
Production monitoring systems
-
Plant data historians
-
Customer-developed data collection platforms
Our engineering team works with the customer to identify the required data points, communication method,
and interface requirements before implementation.

Automation and Robotic Cell Integration
Cosen bandsaws can be configured for integration into automated manufacturing cells, including connection with robotic loading and unloading systems and other upstream or downstream equipment.
Cosen provides the machine-side controls and communication needed for the saw to coordinate with
external automation systems.
Depending on the application, integration can include:
-
Interface signals for robotic loading and unloading systems
-
Cycle-ready and cycle-complete handshakes
-
Clamp and vise status signals
-
Material-present and position signals
-
Fault and alarm communication
-
Custom PLC inputs and outputs
-
Communication with secondary manufacturing processes
-
Custom PLC logic and I/O mapping
The goal is to allow the bandsaw to communicate and operate as a coordinated part of the overall production cell rather than as an isolated machine.

Intelligent Software Tools
In addition to machine-level controls and system connectivity, Cosen offers software and digital tools designed to improve cutting performance, simplify job management, and provide greater visibility into machine operation.
V_Drive
V_Drive helps support cutting performance by automatically responding to changing cutting conditions during the cut. It can help increase cutting speed in harder-to-cut materials while maintaining blade life.
-
Respond to changing cutting resistance
-
Increase cutting speed in difficult materials
-
Help maintain blade life
-
Support consistent cutting performance

Q-Cut
Q-Cut simplifies job creation and machine setup by allowing cutting jobs to be created through Cosen’s web-based application. The system generates a QR-coded job sheet that can be printed and scanned at the saw to load the job information.
-
Create and manage cutting jobs through a web-based application
-
Generate QR-coded job sheets
-
Transfer job information to the saw by scanning the QR code
-
Reduce manual operator entry
-
Minimize input errors
-
Standardize job setup
For customers using their own ERP, barcode, or QR-code systems, Cosen can also develop customized interfaces that allow job information to be transferred between customer systems and the saw.
Mechalogix
Mechalogix is Cosen’s machine monitoring and analytics platform, providing real-time and historicalinformation from connected Cosen ban dsaws through a web-based dashboard and mobile app.
Customers can monitor machine performance, utilization, blade usage, component activity, and production trends while receiving alerts, notifications, and automated reports.
-
Machine status and utilization
-
Cutting and production data
-
Machine load and operating data
-
Run-time and cycle-count information
-
Blade usage by material
-
Blade-life and failure-risk insights
-
Maintenance-related information
-
Alerts and notifications
-
Automated reporting
-
Web dashboard and mobile access
